Sandalwood Perfume Ingredient

Sandalwood Perfume

Sandalwood oil is a fragrant essential oil typically sourced from the bark of the tree in the genus Santalum. In nature it is found in Indonesia, Hawaii, and India. In perfumes it typically provides a sweet, woody aroma with herbaceous notes. It can also be used for cooking, when it imparts a dry, sweet flavour with a hint of vanilla.

The tradition of sandalwood can be traced back to Hinduism and Buddhism where the wood was thought to symbolize spirituality. Sandalwood is a popular fragrance that can be found in many products from perfumes, to soaps, and air fresheners. Sandalwood plants are often used as an alternative medicine for various ailments such as diabetes and depression.

A chemical composition Sandalwood oil is trans-β-santalene, or γ-santalol. γ-Santalol is the major component in the oil, while α-santalene and β-santalene are present but in much lower quantities.
